Rena Effendi's early work focused on oil industry's effects on people's lives. Her first monograph 'Pipe Dreams: A Chronicle of Lives along the Pipeline' was published in 2009. Schilt Publishing produced Effendi's second monograph Liquid Land in 2013. Rena Effendi has received many international awards such as the Prince Claus Fund Award for Culture and Development and SONY World Photography award in the Fine Art category. She was short-listed for the Prix Pictet Award in Photography and Sustainability for her series Chernobyl: Still Lives in the Zones. Her work was on display at the Saatchi Gallery in London, Aperture Gallery in New York, Istanbul Modern and the Venice Biennial.
